This fall, tenured academic publishing representatives Alex Holzman and Frank Smith provided a report on eBook usage in academic libraries. The report, titled “Academic eBook Usage in Libraries: A Study of University Presses and Aggregators,” explores eBook usage and data. Although this data is critical for both libraries and university presses, presses often can't access it because their content is sold through a third party. While aggregators do offer sales and usage reports to presses, there is no standard data reporting tool, so information can vary widely and contain different meanings.
The findings in this report have driven Paradigm to create an advisory board that will work on a joint initiative to standardize and enhance usage reporting across aggregators for a more collaborative ecosystem that will benefit publishers, libraries, and authors.
