The Transactions of the American Philosophical Society is the oldest scholarly publication in the US. First published in 1771, it covers various fields of study, from 18th-century American history to the history of science and meteorology to evolution. Paradigm had the honor of making digital copies of the first 27 volumes available to the scientific community for years to come. The value and history of these volumes prompted us not to send the titles to our service provider as usual but to scan them in-house.
Follow Florian Hofbauer, Manager of Processes and Digitization, as he travels from Boston to Philadelphia to retrieve the timeless volumes of the Transactions of the American Philosophical Society.

For librarians, digital archives offer the following benefits:
Goethe, Schleiermacher, the Brothers Grimm, Max Planck, Noam Chomsky, and Jürgen Habermas – these are just few of the authors who published with us and whose titles can be found in our archive, which comprises more than 53,000 titles. We are breathing new life into the treasures in our archive by making them digitally available.
The De Gruyter Book Archive (DGBA) is a testament to our dedication to the preservation of academic heritage. Through our innovative "edition" On-Demand service, we digitized 10,000 books that were originally published between 2011 and 2017. This success spurred us to digitize our entire archive back to 1749, offering all titles as eBooks and hardcover reprints. The DGBA provides access to over 270 years of meticulously curated scientific and literary history, carefully digitized and sensibly optimized for high-quality reading experiences.

The Akademie Verlag Book Archive (ABA) is a treasure trove of scientific publications from the German Democratic Republic (GDR, formerly East Germany). De Gruyter is digitizing the complete book archive of Akademie Verlag, the largest academic publisher of the GDR. Rooted in the history of the German Academy of Sciences in Berlin, the ABA project involves digitizing approximately 20,000 books dating from 1946 to 1989. From studies in socialist economy to medieval German texts, the ABA offers a comprehensive exploration of humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences from the GDR era.
The archive will be completed by 2025 but is available for purchase now. Holdings will be continuously updated with newly digitized titles and corresponding metadata.
